Motivational Interviewing online training
Essential Motivational Interviewing is a 6 CEU  online training being offered to clinicians beginning in 2018. Trainings are NASW, NYSED and OASAS approved for social workers, mental health counselors and CASACs. Find out more here.

There is a continuing need for flexible, adaptable methods for improving SUD diagnosis and treatment. All 2018 Essentials trainings  focus on Best Practices for use with those with Substance Use, Mental Health and Co-Occurring Disorders. Each “Essentials. . . .” 2018 course is designed to bolster clinician confidence in the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing practice, and practices which are specific to Co-Occurring Disorders. Each of the three courses emphasizes the effectiveness and feasibility of CBT  or Motivational Interviewing in SUD practice, models examples of how to use the practices, and offers interactive website opportunities for learners. These practices have proved to be effective with Substance Use Disorders that involve alcohol, marijuana and cocaine, three of the top four psychoactive substances used by teens and adults (SAMHSA, 2009). The filmed case presentations included in the courses are typical and/or challenging clinical scenarios, illustrating the use of Best Practices in treatment.

The BPTI study (click here to read more about the study) on the CBT training, completed  in November, 2017, demonstrated that those who took the training used CBT with their clients more often, and were more confident in their use of the technique. Read more about the research basis of the 2018 trainings here.
