2019 – 2020 ONLINE Self-Study Courses

CEs for  NYS social workers, LMHCs and CASACs*
All online self-study audio/video-based courses  are open to all New York State clinicians (LCSWs, LMSWs,  LMHCs and CASACs) . (See training info and provider id’s at the bottom of the page.) Note that the CBT course (“Essential Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Substance Use Disorders”) is free for CASACs in 2020.  Participants need to complete a course evaluation and pass the posttest with 75% correct in order to earn a certificate. (See more details at “course completion” below). You have up to a year to complete courses once you register. Audio/Video-based courses such as these have the availability of text and narration to accommodate those with disabilities. Start-stop-resume as you wish. Instructional clinical videos are embedded into the courses.

Essential Co-Occurring Disorders for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Treatment (COD) – 6 CEs $30.00
“Essential Co-occurring Disorders for Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Treatment” is a self-paced 6  hour self-study recorded audio/video-based online presentation which  demonstrates treatment strategies useful for Co-occurring Disorders. The term “Co-Occurring Disorders” describes the simultaneous existence of a Mental Health (MH) Disorder and a Substance Use Disorder (SUD), more complicated to diagnose and treat than either Mental Health or Substance Use Disorders alone. Ethics for the Counseling Professions (EH) -6 CEs $30.00
“Ethics for the Counseling Professions” is a self-paced self-study 5 hour self-study recorded audio/video-based online presentation for social workers and other clinicians that covers ethical values which are the basis for ethical counselor practice. The course covers social work, mental health counselor and CASAC ethical codes, covers ethical decision making in the areas of confidentiality, technological advances, immigration and addictions. Refunds will be given in exceptional circumstances only within a month of registration. Previous payments will be honored only within the calendar year of registration.

Target audience: NYS Social workers and other clinical professionals who work with clients with Substance Use Disorders.
Content level: Beginning to intermediate

Course completion requirements

To earn CE credit, participants must log in, attend the entire course as determined electronically and complete a course evaluation and posttest with at least 75% accuracy. Participants will have a second “open-book” chance if they do not pass at 75% the first time. Further attempts must be authorized by the CE Director. Certificates of completion will be emailed within 10 business days of course completion

System requirements:
Operating Systems: Windows XP or higher, MacOS9 or higher, Android 4.0 or higher
Internet browser: Internet Explorer 9.0 or higher, Google Chrome, Firefox 10.0 or higher
Broadband Internet connections: Cable, High-speed DSL & any other medium that is internet accessible.
Media viewing requirements: Adobe Reader, Flash Player, & HTML5
DISABILITIES: For technical difficulties/disabilities, such as not having devices with technology which meets operating system requirements, or having difficulty with that technology, paper copies of pretests and posttests can be mailed.
For those with hearing difficulties, the courses have a written narrative which may be accessed with the click of a button. For those who are “print-disabled,” the courses are narrated.
Other difficulties with technology (can’t open a second window on your device, can’t get access to the training site, can’t remember password, etc.) may be able to be remedied by contacting helpdesk@bestpracticetrainers.org which may be able to give assistance.

**NOTES: NYS OASAS has authorized BPTI (provider #0806) to give 6 credits for each of the courses listed above for re-credentialing CASACs.
New York Social Workers: BPTI is recognized by the NYSED as a CE provider for NYS social workers  (#SW-0519) and LMHCs (#MHC-0124) and has provider level approval to offer CEs to NYS SWers and LMHCs. 
NYSED allows only 1/3 of the required CEs to come from distance-learning courses.
NJ Social Workers: Our organization has applied for consideration of CE credits to ASWB ACE for each of these recorded audio/video based online courses.
