This 2 credit clinical course was developed for social work and other clinical professionals. The course will familiarize professionals with Motivational Interviewing strategies and techniques that are oriented toward recognizing, eliciting and responding to a client’s talk that is about positive change.
This webinar offers a closer look at Change Talk and is part of our Motivational Tune Up Series which teaches specific topics to enhance proficiency of MI Core Skills. Participants will learn to cultivate and respond to Change Talk using MI based skills highlighting the clinician’s role in encouraging and consistently responding to Change Talk in a way that promotes a conversation about change while supporting client momentum in favor of change. Previous knowledge of MI skills is helpful but not required. About the instructor:

Tina Iler, LCSWR, is in private and agency practice in the mid-Hudson region of New York State. She has over twenty years front line experience with challenging clients. She has had extensive training in Motivational Interviewing and uses and Motivational Interviewing focus consistently with dually-diagnosed clients in in trauma-informed treatment. She is a resourceful, dynamic and creative speaker.

  • Assess client verbalization for whether it represents Change Talk
  • Explain the difference between Preparatory Change Talk and Mobilizing Change Talk
  • Describe how to respond to client Change Talk in order to elicit more Change Talk
