Afua Forson specializes in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has been schooled in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) (Sue Johnson), and has obtained her license to practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist. She has a background in medicine, which has allowed her to effectively integrate mental health issues with a medical etiology into her clinical work. Her training in medicine allows her to understand the difficulties that chronic medical issues can cause in relationships.
One of her immediate goals for the organization is to have BPTI apply to be a continuing education provider to the LMFTs in New York State. She believes the BPTI trainings about substance use have been helpful for her focus on relationships, since substance use disorders affect one in five families.
Her enthusiasm about couples’ work is contagious. We’re happy to have her with us.
