Ruth Campbell, LCSW, Ph.D. is currently in private practice in New York City and in upstate NY. She is the Continuing Education Director of the non-profit organization Best Practice Trainers, Inc. (BPTI), which has a research and training mission. She has 40 years’ experience working in mental health settings as a clinician, teacher, and author, and 14 years’ experience in direct practice with Substance Use Disorders. She is a thoughtful and thought-provoking writer. She says of her efforts, “Being a part of BPTI has given me the opportunity to do research on clinical practice in a way that I’ve always wanted to do. From the time I began employment as a clinician in the field, working with mental health and substance use disorders, I’ve bumped up against situations that generated questions that no one could answer. Through BPTI, I can begin to try to answer some of those questions by doing research that I’ve participated in designing and executing. That’s gratifying.
I also care deeply about people, and believe in their ability to actualize their potential. Being a therapist gives me the privilege of accompanying those who are trying to change and to actualize themselves. ”
