Join experienced clinical social worker and psychotherapist Tina Iler, LCSWR as she explains how to use Motivational Interviewing in your clinical practice to create strong  therapeutic outcomes.

Discover the fundamentals of Motivational Interviewing (MI), a collaborative client centered approach that strengthens a person’s own motivation and commitment to change. This course is a 2 and a quarter hour long beginning level online, self-study, recorded webinar created in December, 2021 for social work and other clinical professionals. Iler says, “I am passionate about Motivational Interviewing. I believe it offers important techniques and insights concerning clinical practice”.

Participants will be able to:

  • explain the Spirit of Motivational Interviewing.
  • explain the difference between Change Talk and Sustain Talk.
  • identify counselor responses that exemplify the “Righting Reflex.”
  • explain how to use OARS + I microskills with clients.

Motivational Interviewing – An Introduction to the Basics (#4199) has been approved by the ASWB ACE program to be offered by Best Practice Trainers, Inc. as an individual course that is available for CEs for social workers in the US and Canada. Individual courses, not providers, are approved at the course level. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Tina Iler, LCSWR

Tina Iler, LCSWR, is in private and agency practice in the mid-Hudson region of New York State. She is the Social Work consultant for the BPTI Continuing Education group and the BPTI contact person for social workers in the US and Canada. She has over 25 years experience in direct practice with clients with mental health and substance use disorders. 

She is passionate about Motivational Interviewing and trains extensively in MI. As well, she has been trained by the Beck Institute in CBT and the Linehan Institute for DBT and mindfulness.  In her individual therapy, she provides compassionate support to work towards developing coping skills for healthier choices, improved self care, and building resilience to live life with greater ease and acceptance of past or present circumstances. Completion requirements
